Sister Aimee Semple Mcpherson -- evangelist & cause celebre -- died from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills in Oakland, California on September 27, 1944. Her body was viewed by over 45,000 people as it lay in state for three days at the Angelus Temple. She was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California on October 9, 1944.
